As people try to cope with the devastation of Covid-19, drug and alcohol usage has increased as have overdoses. This is a moment in which all the harm reduction strategies we have on hand should be the most accessible. Unfortunately, lack of access to and funding for methadone (a medication used for opioid use disorder) in Travis county has led to discouragingly long waiting lists and would-be patients being turned away. And, despite winning $1 million from the city budget, we have been informed by Austin Public health that we will not be able to put any of it towards funding methadone treatment. While we work to demand that city increase access to methadone, we are asking that you help us fund treatment for a few of our clients. A year of treatment is $4,500 and we have 3 clients whose care is in need of funding. We want to thank everyone who is able to donate and for those of you who are unable to we ask that share this page with others!
