FOUNDED IN 2017 BY MICHAEL PRADO, WEST TEXAS HARM REDUCTION IS A FREE, COMMUNITY BASED NALOXONE DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM. VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE OVERDOSE PREVENTION TRAINING WHICH INCLUDE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO SPOT OVERDOSES AND HOW TO ADMINISTER NALOXONE AND RESCUE BREATHING. YOU CAN CATCH THEM DOING OUTREACH 7 DAYS A WEEK WHERE THEY OFFER FENTANYL TESTING STRIPS, HYGIENE KITS, AS WELL AS INFORMATION ABOUT HIV AND HCV TESTING. THE CARE THEY OFFER ISN'T JUST IN DISTRIBUTION SERVICES THOUGH, THEY ALSO PROVIDE COUNSELING AND LOW BARRIER MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT.
Where to find them!
WTHR conducts outreach 7 days a week in Abilene. You can also catch them on the I-20 corridor, from Odessa in the west to Ranger in the east handing out naloxone and educational materials!
